Fresh Tracks – The Cheat – Volume 4

The Cheat is really spreading his seed widely this week, saddling up with fresh tracks from across the musical spectrum. Opening the list we have the subdued new-new-wave 2020Soundsystem Remix of Chicken Lips’ White Dwarf. The Glass get us jumping around to Same Thing like it was Brit night back at Luvafair. Third on the list, Huntemann & Winter get Xenia Beliayeva channeling C.J. Bolland’s Electro Power from 1997, twisted into a fat electro romp. Following along in the electo vein we have yet another great mix of Hystereo’s wonderful Executive Memo, this time with Sebastien Leger on the mix. In the middle of the list this week, a style that has always been a part of The Cheat sound but that has been under-represented here in Fresh Tracks, and that’s grime! I keep running into great Jahcoozi and Modeselektor tracks, made all that much better by the two working together. This time around, it’s a Modeselektor remix of Jahcoozi’s Black Barbie which damn near mutates into an outright D&B track before settling into glitchy grime. Up next, a pounding electroclash remix of Loic B’s Power In Yourself. Phunklarique then takes us to a higher level with spoken word samples and resonating lead synths. Second to last, we slow the groove down so that Rhythm King & Her Friends can Get Paid for their dirty electro rock. Last but not least, Santos’ Experiment takes us back in time with a track that is new but could just as easily be from the very years it celebrates.

That’s it for the Fresh Tracks this week, faithful visitors! 1821 new releases auditioned, 46 making the initial shortlist, and just 24 tracks making it through the gauntlet and onto these pages for your listening enjoyment. Believe me, you don’t want to have to check out eighteen hundred songs to find two dozen, so keep coming back each week for more dj twopointzero Fresh Tracks and I’ll keep diggin’ ‘em up for ya!
