Continually refreshing my dj sets with new music every week involves a lot of work. As a music fan and/or dj (otherwise, why would you be reading this) I’m sure you know the drill: Hit the record store/cd store/online store/label web site, audition song after song, trawling through piles of trash for that rare treasure worth adding to your collection.
The average person might be inclined to listen to a handful or perhaps a dozen or two in a given day. Heck, most might only get through that much in a week.
Enter dj twopointzero: one thousand songs per week. 140 per day. Approximately twenty thousand in the last four months that I’ve been keeping stats, and tens of thousands more before that.
Now to be clear, I’m not bragging. This is just part of the job, and it is more chore than charm, more obsession than joy. That said, it is still a thousand songs each week that you don’t have to listen to…
Enter dj twopointzero’s Fresh Tracks: each week, I shortlist around one thousand of the week’s promos, releases, and re-releases, producing a few lists totalling twenty or thirty tracks you should check out if you are a fan of 21st century dance music inspired by the electronic, new wave, punk, and funk sounds of the late 70’s and early 80’s.
Each set of Fresh Tracks will zero in on the defining sound of the week’s most notable new tracks in that category. Sometimes more electronic, other times more rock. Sometimes more minimal, other times more over the top. Regardless, the tracks will always be deserving of your sweat.
Even better, during the days that follow the posting of each list, I’ll be creating and posting fresh dj mixes using the week’s new material, together with recent back-catalogue additions and the occasional all-time favorite.
So, bookmark this site and/or add one of the RSS feeds to your feed reader, as the Fresh Tracks will soon be comin’ at ya fast and furious.
